Glyburide is a type 2 oral medication in the sulfonylurea class of diabetes drugs. It helps beta cells in the pancreas release more insulin. This medication is available in generic (glyburide) and brand names (Diabeta, Micronase).
Glyburide is approved for adults with type 2 diabetes.
- Glyburide is used to improve blood glucose management in adults with type 2 diabetes. It is not for treating type 1 diabetes.
- Usually, Glyburide is taken with breakfast.
- An initial dose for standard Glyburide is usually 1.25 to 5 mg taken by mouth once a day, with a maintenance dose usually being 1.25 to 20 mg, either as a single dose or in divided doses.
