Invokana (canagliflozin) is an oral medication in the SGLT-2 inhibitor class of drugs. It blocks glucose from being reabsorbed by the kidneys. Excess glucose is released in the urine. Invokana should be taken in the morning, and increased water intake throughout the day is recommended. Medications in the SGLT-2 inhibitor class may offer heart and kidney benefits for people with cardiovascular disease.
Invokana is approved for adults and children age 10 and over with type 2 diabetes.
