Afrezza (insulin human) is an inhaled, rapid-acting insulin for adults with diabetes. It is taken before meals via an inhaler.

  • Rapid-acting insulin: Usually taken before a meal. Begins to work about 15 minutes after injection and lasts 2-4 hours.
  • Administered via a breath-activated inhaler
  • Approved for adults with type 1 and type 2 diabetes
  • Limitations: Not recommended for patients with lung conditions (e.g., asthma, COPD) or smokers.
