Invokamet and Invokamet XR

Invokamet and Invokamet XR are a combination oral medication of canagliflozin and metformin. Canagliflozin is in the SGLT-2 inhibitor class of drugs. It blocks glucose from being reabsorbed by the kidneys, and excess glucose is released in the urine. Metformin decreases the glucose released from the liver.

Medications in the SGLT-2 inhibitor class may offer heart and kidney benefits for people with cardiovascular disease.

This medication should be taken in the morning, and increased water intake throughout the day is recommended. It is approved for adults and children 10 years and over with type 2 diabetes.

  • Along with diet and exercise, Invokamet (a combination of canagliflozin and metformin) and Invokamet XR are oral diabetes medicines that help manage blood glucose levels in adults and children age 10 years and over with type 2 diabetes. It is not for treating type 1 diabetes.
