Mounjaro (tirzepatide)
Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is a once-weekly injectable prescription medication that activates glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypetide and glucagon-like peptide-1 receptors. It is the only FDA-approved drug in its class and is indicated for use in adult patients with type 2 diabetes to improve glycemic control in conjunction with exercise and diet. Through targeting two receptors, the medication works to manage blood glucose through multiple mechanisms including increasing insulin sensitivity, increasing insulin release, reducing glucagon, slowing gastric emptying, and decreasing food intake.
