Avandia (rosiglitazone)

GlaxoSmithKline

Avandia is a type 2 diabetes oral medication in the thiazolidinedione class of drugs. It helps insulin work better in muscle and fat cells and balances glucose production in the liver. Avandia is known as an insulin sensitizer. This medication is only available in the brand name, Avandia. Because type 2 diabetes medications act in different ways to lower blood glucose levels, doctors will often prescribe multiple drugs. Combinations of diabetes medications may be used to optimize blood glucose control. Each medication has its own side effects. Read labels carefully. Patients with congestive heart failure should not use Avandia.
