INVOKAMET (canagliflozin) and (metformin)
Invokamet (canagliflozin) and (metformin) is a type 2 diabetes combination oral medication. Invokamet is in the SGLT-2 inhibitor class of drugs with metformin. It blocks glucose from being reabsorbed by the kidneys. Excess glucose is released in the urine. This medication should be taken in the morning and increased water intake throughout the day is recommended. Medications in the SGLT-2 inhibitor class may offer heart and kidney benefits for people with cardiovascular disease. Metformin decreases the glucose released from the liver. Talk to your doctor about your options and whether switching to one of these drugs may help you. Because type 2 diabetes medications act in different ways to lower blood glucose levels, providers will often prescribe multiple drugs to a patient. Each medication has its own side effects. Read labels carefully. Consult your physician if you have congestive heart failure.
